The Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun, says the state has resolved to end open defecation before the year 2025 in order to guide against outbreak of diseases and epidemic.
Adeosun gave the hint while declaring open a 5-day training workshop in Ibadan on Wednesday, saying that the state would be the first to achieve the fit in the country.
The SSG said the pacesetter state would take the lead in good governance and human development.
According to her, the training was targeted towards attitudinal change in the area of hygiene among the rural dwellers in the state.
Adeosun reiterated the current administration’s readiness to phase out unhygienic behaviours accounting for high mortality rate among the rural dwellers.
She said the state government would continue to support Oyo RUWASSA to ensure that the aims of the agency were achieved.
“We have set our own target to end the menace of open defecation. With what we have today and the next four days in training and with the drive of the desk officers from the 33 local government areas, we assure the people that once again, Oyo State will set the pace in stamping out the menace of open defecation.
“It is very important to appreciate the efforts of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources as well as our sponsor, UNICEF for collaborating with the Oyo State Rural Water Sanitation Agency in fighting this battle. We shall continue to make them proud by doing our best in giving the people of the state healthy living environment,” she said.
The Chairman, OyoRUWASSA, Najeem Omirinde, urged the people of the state to continue to support the administration in a bid to actualize a state of their dream.
