Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer, the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has advised the people against being mentally subdued after the ongoing partial nationwide lockdown in the country is lifted in order to be better off in life.
The man of God, who said both himself and his wife, including his grandchildren would not be in church at the moment in view of the guidelines given by the National Centre for Diseases Control, noted that the effects of mental and spiritual lockdown could be greater than the physical lockdown.
He urged the people to pray for freedom from the bondage of limitation.
Pastor Adeboye spoke during the Sunday service with the title, ‘From lockdown to leaping up,’ on Dove Television Station, saying, “The journey up begins from your knees.
“I believe some of you are already gathering in some parts of the world and we believe that you will now begin to enjoy the power of corporate prayers once again. As you gather together in all those places where you are free to gather, please remember those of us who cannot gather with you yet.
“People like me and my wife cannot gather with you in Lagos because we are over 65 years of age. My grandchildren cannot gather with you because they are under 15years of age. Remember us in prayer so that soon, we can join you.
“Please, keep praying now that you can pray together corporately. I am sure that your prayer will be far effective against this plague so that very soon all will be well. For those of you who are still at home, I think I will be reaching out to you again for a couple of weeks. For those of you who can gather together, your pastors can now go back to their assignments. If they still want to join those of us who are locked down, they are welcome.”
The general overseer, while reading from the book of Acts 3 verse 1-8, spoke of a lame man who was taken to the entrance of the ‘Beautiful Gate’ to beg for alms. On seeing Peter and John, he begged for alms but got a miracle of healing instead.
The man of God said, “Very soon, you will move from lockdown to leaping up. Man is born free but is everywhere in chains was what one great philosopher said. The hunger for freedom is so intense in man that any opportunity they have to be free, they would grab it.
“As mad as the mad man of Gadara was, he wanted to be free. The Holy Bible says even though he was chained by fetters of iron, he would pluck it aside because he wanted to be free. Every man had a deep hunger for freedom. There is something worse than physical lockdown. You find that one of the biggest punishments you can give to a criminal is when you lock him down in prison.
“There is something more than the physical lockdown; that is mental lockdown. Of course, the worst of them all is spiritual lockdown. Adam was a very strong man according to Genesis 2, verse 7-15. The Holy Bible tells us that he was the one that was dressing the Garden of Eden. If you study your Bible very well, the garden was very big. We are to believe Bible scholars, that garden is bigger than Lagos State, yet, only one man was put in charge.”
“Adam was not just strong physically, (Genesis 2 verse 19-20), he was very strong intellectually. You would discover that he was the one that named all the animals. This man was probably the greatest professor of Zoo ever, but when he sinned, he was locked down mentally and he became a vagabond.”
He warned the people to avoid toying with all tendencies that could subject them to further lockdown after surviving the current lockdown that is besetting the world, saying, “A girl was asked what she wanted to become when she grew up, she said she wanted to become a house help because her mother and her grandmother were house helps too.
“There are certain enemies that can lock you down mentally. To be average is the enemy of being clever; good enough is the greatest enemy of greatness; and great is the greatest enemy of complete. You should not be talking of good old days; you should be talking of good things happening now and good things to come.”
