The Polytechnic Ibadan chapters of the Non Academic Staff Union and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnic have denied the rumours doing the rounds that the institution’s workers had gone on strike describing the report as untrue.

The staff unions of the polytechnic, in a statement that was issued to the media after rising from an emergency meeting on Monday, said all workers of the institution were working without interruption at their various duty posts.

The workers disclosed that the state government recently approved the adjustment of minimum wage to the workers in the polytechnic.

They added that in response to their agitation, the Platinum Consultant recently opened up discussion with the management of the polytechnic to address the logjams on basic needs of the institution.

The statement jointly signed on Monday and made available to journalists by SSANIP Chairman, Biodun Abegunde; NASU Chairman, Ibraheem Akande; and T. M. Oyebola, representative of  Academics, read that the workers had reached an amicable resolution with the state government.

“We use this avenue to inform the good people of Oyo State that The Polytechnic, Ibadan is not on strike as being insinuated by some people in some quarters previously.

“We implore other institutions in Oyo State to take a cue from The Polytechnic, Ibadan by taking rational approach in solving issues.

“Arising from an emergency meeting of the Union leaders in The Polytechnic Ibadan held on Monday, 3rd May, 2021 and having reviewed our activities in the last three months, we consider it necessary to write on behalf of the entire staff of The Polytechnic Ibadan to appreciate the Oyo State Government, Commissioner for Education, Special Adviser on Labour matters, the Governing Council, the Rector and the entire members of the management, The Polytechnic, Ibadan and more importantly, the Governor, Oluseyi Makinde, for acceding to some of our demands.

“On behalf of the entire staff, we say we are grateful for the degree of liberty given to our Governing Council to resolve some of our lingering issues internally,” it read.
