Students of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, took to the street on Thursday in protest against the killing of a student of the institution named Hassan Adedeji.
Adedeji, a newly graduated HND Banking and Finance student was reportedly killed while on a commercial motorcycle around the Agbale-Bode area in Ede town, on Wednesday night.
Having finished his final examination, he was said to be preparing for his one-year mandatory youth service.
It was gathered that the assailants also shot the yet-to-be-identified motorcyclist who was taking him to his destination.
The angry polytechnic students, who embarked on peaceful protest in the town, registered their grievances at the palace of Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal.
The students reportedly set bonfire in parts of the town in reaction to the gruesome murder of their colleague.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Osun State Command, Yemisi Opalola, gave the name of the prime suspect in the killings as Rasheed Okolu.
Okolu’s gang was said to have been terrorising the community.
Opalola said that the command had begun investigation into the matter.
“One Rasheed Okolu, who is a suspected cultist, is the prime suspect and the Commissioner of Police has said that he cannot be in a state where an individual or group becomes a threat to the residents. Wherever the suspect is, he will be brought to justice,” she said.
Sola Lawal, the polytechnic spokesperson, described Adedeji’s death as unfortunate.
