Residents of Wire and Cable/Orisunmibare/Ita Faaji/Oganla Community in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State are currently grieving over the deplorable state of the road leading to their communities.

According to them, time is now for the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration to come to their aid by constructing the only road serving the community.

The people made the appeal recently while addressing the press on the deplorable state of the road that connects them to the centre of Ibadan, the state capital.

The state road had, for years, been abandoned by successive administrations in the state without any respite.

The people of the community claimed that past administrations in the state made failed promises that they would construct the road.

Some residents of the area alleged that the road was abandoned due to a generational curse on it.

Mr Yomi Olaniyi, Chairman of Gbogun/Otu Community Landlord Association, said that “Wire and Cable/Orisunmibare/Ita Faaji/Oganla Road is very important to the community and beyond. It is a state road that serves several other communities.

“Unfortunately, the road has been suffering neglect over the years. It may not be out of place to say that the road is under a curse which has made past administrations in the state to neglect it.

“I was made to understand that many landlords, both living and dead, made incursions into the road in the course of building their houses.

“These affected landlords were said to have placed a curse on the road, saying its  construction would not be in their lifetime. We are appealing to Governor Makinde to help us to break this curse and construct the road.”

A female community leader in the area named Madam Rafaatu Abdulai, said, “I have been living in this community for more than 25 years. Much as I love its peaceful ambience, the state of the road serving the community from Wire and Cable has been a source of concern for us over the years.

“Former Governor Abiola Ajimobi once awarded the contract for construction. However, more than four years after the end of the administration, nothing was done on the road.”

Michael Adewale, said, “It is becoming very clear that Wire and Cable/Orisunmibare/Ita Faaji/Oganla Road is under a curse and this may be the reason for its deplorable condition.

“Apart from former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala who was grading the road when he was in power, no other governor has done anything to improve the condition of the road.

“Governor Seyi Makinde was in our community in January 2019 to campaign for election. We told him then that the only thing we want from him was to lay asphalt on the road and to make good drainage.

“Governor Makinde promised to meet up with our demand. But nothing has been done so far.”

Another resident, Mrs Fausat Olanrewaju, said, “Sir, kindly consider us in your Omituntun 2:0 programme. Kindly intervene and remove whatever curse they might have placed on our road.”
