The Muslim Rights Concern, on Friday, asked former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the last presidential election in the country, to congratulate President Bola Tinubu on his victory.
A statement by the Executive Director of MURIC, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, urged Atiku to display the spirit of Islamic brotherhood and political maturity by congratulating the winner of the presidential poll.
In view of the fact that the apex court affirmed the victory of Tinubu in the presidential election of February 25, the statement advised that bickering must stop as the legal fireworks had come to an end with the final pronouncement of the court.
Reacting to the ruling in Abuja on Thursday by Justice Inyang John Okoro, chairman of the seven-man panel that delivered the judgment, the Islamic scholar said Tinubu and Atiku are both Muslims, hence they should join hands in building the country.
The statement read, “We have a country to build and the time to do it is now.
“Both of you are Muslims and that is important to MURIC. First and foremost, you were both Muslims before becoming politicians. You must now join hands to heal wounds, to build bridges and to allay fears.”
Meanwhile, the court has resolved the fact that the Independent National Electoral Commission substantially complied with the Electoral Act 2022 and the constitution in the conduct of the poll, and that rlection cannot be nullified due to the unavailability of results on INEC’s IReV portal.
It also resolved that failure to secure 25 per cent of votes in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja cannot invalidate a winner’s election, and that petitioners did not prove allegations of rigging against Tinubu.
Also resolved by the court are that the issue of APC’s double nomination of Vice President Kashim Shettima had earlier been decided by the court on May 26, 2023; and that Tinubu’s forfeiture of $460, 000 drug money was raised when the Respondents had already filed their process.
