.To be brought to Nigeria today
Chief Sunday Adeyemo, a.k.a Sunday Igboho, has been arrested by security operatives in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
Sunday Igboho was reportedly arrested at an airport in Cotonou on Monday night.
Recall that the Department of State Services had, three weeks ago, declared Sunday Igboho wanted for allegedly stockpiling arms, an allegation he has since denied.
The DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, had at a briefing on July 1, 2021, had vowed that Sunday Igboho might run and hide as long as he wanted “but this will be the end of his shenanigans.”
The Yoruba Nation agitator is expected to be repatriated to Nigeria today (Tuesday) from Benin Republic.
A source said, “He was arrested in Cotonou while he tried to travel out on Monday night. His destination was Germany. The security forces in Benin Republic should repatriate him to Nigeria on Tuesday.”
Sunday Igboho had been reported to have tried to get new passport, in a bid to flee overseas.
The operatives of the DSS had raided Igboho’s Soka, Ibadan residence on July 1, 2021, where they arrested 12 of his aides and killed two of them in a gun duel.
The Federal Government had placed the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigeria Customs Service on alert to stop him from leaving the country.
A member of Igboho’s legal team, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said he would speak with the lead counsel, Yomi Aliyu (SAN), and revert later.
