AKINWALE ABOLUWADE
Senator Sharafadeen Alli, representing Oyo South Senatorial District, has donated a borehole to Mokola Police Division in Ibadan, Oyo State just as he presented a power generating set and a 3.5kva Inverter with Solar panels to Sango Police Division in the city.
This, according to Alli, who is Chairman, Senate Committee on INEC and Vice-Chairman, Senate Committee on Customs, is part of his efforts to support effective policing.
A statement by Akeem Abas, Special Adviser on Media to the senator, read that “This gesture is not only a testament to his commitment to developing his community but also his appreciation for the role of the police at ensuring the safety and security of citizens.
“The borehole is expected to provide a sustainable water source for the officers at the Mokola Police Station and its environs. It is no secret that many police stations in Nigeria are plagued by lack of basic amenities and clean water is not an exception.
“The senator’s intervention will go a long way in improving the living conditions of the police officers and their families. The three solar inverters donated to Sango Police Station will ensure an uninterrupted power supply.
“Many police stations in Nigeria rely on generators, which are not only expensive to maintain but also tend to break down frequently. With the installation of the 3.5kva Inverter with Solar panels, the station will be able to save costs and reduce its carbon footprint.”
The statement indicated that the senator’s gesture attracted admiration from the communities as residents praised his commitment to developmental activities.
Meanwhile, political leaders had been urged to emulate the gesture of the lawmaker by supporting the police.
In another development, Alli raised the alarm that some elements were out to defraud unsuspecting members of the public under the guise of providing empowerment opportunities in his name.
A statement by the lawmaker’s media adviser read that “Please be informed that Sen Sharafadeen Alli is not involved in any such activities and has not authorized anyone to demand for money on his behalf for such purposes.
“We strongly advise the public to be wary of individuals who claim to represent Sen. Sharafadeen Alli in any capacity related to empowerment activities. Any demand for money, financial contributions or other favours in connection with such activities should be reported to the appropriate authorities.”
