Senator Sharafadeen Alli, representing Oyo South District in the Senate, has lamented the passage of Fadilat Sheikh Murthada Abubakry Gaata Agbotomokekere.
The leading Islamic clergyman died on Tuesday, February 13, after his arrival from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where he observed the lesser hajj.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Mr Akeem Abas, on Wednesday in Ibadan, Senator Alli expressed heartfelt condolences to the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh AbdulGaniy Abubakry, on the passing of his brother.
The statement described the news of the late Murthada’s death as a rude shock and a great loss to the Muslim community in Oyo State in particular and Nigeria as a whole.
The statement read that the contributions of the deceased to the spiritual well-being of many would leave an indelible mark on the heart of the people.
It read, “In times of sorrow and loss, gestures of support and empathy serve as a source of comfort and strength, reminding us of the bonds of compassion that unite us in moments of grief.
“The passing of Sheikh Murthada Abubakry serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the inevitability of mortality, prompting reflection on the legacy of love, kindness and wisdom that he leaves behind.
“His spiritual journey and dedication to Islam have left an enduring impact on those who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will be cherished by all who were touched by his teachings and guidance.”
It expressed the sympathy of the Senator to the grieving family and the Islamic community in Ibadanland with prayer that Almighty Allah (SWT) may forgive his shortcomings and grant his soul Al-Jannat Firdaos.
