Senator Sharafadeen Alli representing Oyo South at the National Assembly has mourned the passing of Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, a former governor of Oyo State, describing his death as the close of a remarkable chapter in Nigeria’s history of intellectual and public service excellence.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Ibadan by his Special Adviser on Media, Akeem Abas, Senator Alli lauded the late elder statesman as an exceptional figure whose contributions spanned governance, academia and professional service.
He described Olunloyo as “a towering intellect” and one of the most brilliant individuals to have served in Nigeria’s public space. Alli highlighted the late former governor’s accomplishments as a mathematician, engineer, and technocrat, noting that his enduring legacy would continue to influence future generations.
“The passing of Dr. Omololu Olunloyo is a great loss not just to Oyo State, but to the entire nation. He exemplified brilliance, humility, and a deep dedication to public service,” the senator said.
Alli offered his condolences to the Olunloyo family, the people of Ibadanland, and all of Oyo State, praying for divine comfort and peace for the bereaved.
“We have lost a rare gem—an intellectual leader whose wisdom and guidance were invaluable. May Almighty God grant him eternal rest and give us all the strength to cope with this immense loss,” the statement concluded.
