Stakeholders in the education sector have urged graduating students of Adecom College of Business and Management, Egbeda, Ibadan, to prioritise skills, innovation and continuous learning as they step into the next phase of their careers.
They gave the charge on Saturday during the institution’s first-ever combined convocation ceremony, which marked a major milestone in Adecom College’s development.
The graduands, filled with optimism, listened keenly as the Proprietor and Rector of the college, Dr Adewale Adesina, and the guest lecturer, Dr Oyefemi Ismail Oyetunji, emphasised the importance of technical and vocational education in driving sustainable development across Nigeria and Africa.

Delivering the convocation lecture titled “Technical and Vocational Education, Panacea to Sustainable Economic Development,” Oyetunji said global competitiveness now depends on innovation, adaptability and relevant skills.
“I strongly charge you to embrace challenges as opportunities, harness the power of innovation and champion inclusivity in all your endeavours,” he told the graduands.
“The era of degree and diploma glorification is gone forever; today’s global currency is skills. Continuously re-skill and up-skill yourselves so you can live a life of prosperity.”

He described the graduates as “change agents” and “architects of a brighter Nigeria,” stressing that national development requires learners who can create value, industries that see education as a strategic partner, and communities that regard skilled work as essential.
He added that in a world where technology evolves rapidly, “the capacity to adapt, to build and to care for one another is the most enduring currency any nation can possess.” Oyetunji also called for curricula that reflect economic realities, societal needs and emerging technologies.
In his address, the Proprietor, Dr Adesina, described Adecom College as a nurturing ground for future entrepreneurs, technicians, designers and managers. He encouraged the graduates to be bold, innovative and committed to leaving lasting legacies through the practical application of their training.

Reflecting on the institution’s growth, Adesina expressed satisfaction with its progress. “It is a thing of joy that we are not only on our own private site but also in our own private hall,” he said, noting that the school was proud to graduate five sets simultaneously.
He commended the Board of Trustees chaired by Pastor Joseph Olu Olajimi, as well as the management, staff, students, government bodies and other stakeholders for their support over the years.
He further appreciated the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and its Executive Secretary, Prof. Idris Bugaje, who was represented by Mr Adelakun Tajudeen Aderemi.

Several distinguished personalities were honoured for their contributions to education and community development. Honourees included Dr Oriyomi Hazmat, Rotarian Funke Akan, retired police officer Mr Abayomi Adesina, and the Iyaloja-General, Chief (Mrs) Folashade Tinubu-Ojo.
Other dignitaries at the event included Engr (Dr) Adedayo Sobowale; Prof. Fadeyemi Akinrinade; Dr Banjo Adepoju; Olu Olajimi; Toyin Adelaja; Mr Jamiu Afolayan; the College Librarian, Mrs Ajibogun Titilayo; and Ajibola Michael.
