The Management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc. has appealed to electricity consumers to desist from attacking its staff and destroying the company’s facilities as such can further degrade the level of electricity distribution within its franchise area.
The Managing Director of IBEDC, Kinsley Achife, in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital today, said that “In the light of recent attacks across our business locations, the Management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc. would like to appeal to the public to refrain from engaging in acts of violence against its employees and facilities.
“Electricity distribution companies provide essential service which is critical to the lives of the citizens. Attacks on these offices not only cause damage to the property but also disrupt the provision of electricity which affects the livelihoods of many and throw communities into darkness
“We understand that these are trying times for us all, but attacking the staff who are also Nigerians and destroying electrical installations will further exacerbate the challenges. We, therefore, urge the public to maintain law and order and refrain from engaging in any form of assault against electricity workers who are primarily there to support you, your homes and businesses.”
The statement further quoted the Managing Director of the company as assuring the customers of IBEDC’s commitment to providing quality services and improving its infrastructure and operations.
It explained that the company had strengthened its non-cash based payment channels to reduce customer pressure, stressing that “We are also open to feedback and suggestions from the public, and will work to address issues (that are) raised speedily.”
