President Muhammadu Buhari will today depart Abuja for United Kingdom.
The President, who is also scheduled to spend a few days for medical check-up in London, is expected back in Nigeria in the second week of August, 2021.’’
A statement made available to journalists in Abuja, on Monday by President’s spokesman, Mr Femi Adesina, indicated that Buhari would participate in the Global Education Summit on Financing Global Partnership for Education 2021 to 2025.
The statement read that the summit would be co-hosted by the Prime Minister of the UK, Boris Johnson, and the President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta.
According to the statement, the summit will bring together heads of state and government and youth leaders.
The forum would enable key stakeholders to chart a way forward towards on education systems in partner countries through exchange of best practices.
It reads, “It will also offer the opportunity for leaders to make 5-year pledges to support GPE’s work to help transform education systems in up to 90 countries and territories.
“Deliberations at the Summit will focus on The power of education –A conversation between global champions; transforming education for girls; financing for impact and recovery and; what now? Priorities for transforming education in the coming five tears, among others.’’
Buhari would also hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the statement read, adding, “After the Summit, the President will spend a few days for an earlier scheduled medical check-up. He is due back by second week of August, 2021.’’
The stated that Buhari would be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba; National Security Adviser, retired Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno; and Director-General of National Intelligence Agency, Ahmed Rufai Abubakar.
The GPE 2021 to 2025 is expected to be a key moment for the global community to support quality education for children.
The GPE is billed to hold between July 28 and July 29, 2021.
