Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, is in early lead as sorting and counting of ballots got underway this (Wednesday) morning.
The APC Presidential primary commenced around 1am today, hours after the party leadership, presidential aspirants and delegates converged on the Eagle Square venue of the party’s primary.
Tinubu’s name came up more as those sorting the ballot papers from the boxes commenced duty.
Names of former Transportation Minister, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi; and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo also come up on many of the ballot papers.
Six aspirants, namely Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Professor Ajayi Borroffice, Mr Dimeji Bankole, Senator Ibikunle Amosun; and Mrs Uju Ohanenye, stepped down for Tinubu hours before the primary election started.
The fortune of Tinubu, a frontline aspirant, got a boost with his endorsement by the aspirants who stepped down for him.
Babachir Lawal, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation was quoted as saying that Tinubu’s endorsements would increase his fortune.
It was projected that Tinubu would poll over 1,500 of the total votes cast by the 2,203 delegates who were accredited for the exercise.
A total of 2,322 delegates were earlier expected for the poll.
