Tinubu was declared the winner and president-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The Asiwaju polled a total of 8,794,726 votes in the 2023 presidential election.

This came as the PDP polled 6,984,520 votes, LP scored 6,101,533 votes and NNPP got 1,496,687 votes.

Tinubu was, in the early hours of Wednesday, declared the winner by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, at the International Collation Centre, Abuja.

In a keenly contested poll, he defeated three leading presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate; Peter Obi of the Labour Party; and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

Tinubu and Atiku won in 12 states each, while Obi won 11 states, including the Federal Capital Territory as Kwankwaso led in Kano State.

Tinubu defeated former Vice President Atiku, his closest challenger, with about 1.8 million votes.

A former senator and two-term governor of Lagos State, Tinubu contested for the presidential poll for the first time in 2023. He led the coalition that ousted the PDP from power in 2015 having extended his influence beyond the South-West region over the years.

Fourteen other candidates also contested for the presidential position, namely Omoyele Sowore, Africa Action Congress; Adewole Adebayo, Social Democratic Party; Malik Ado-Ibrahim, Young Progressive Party; Dumebi Kachikwu of the African Democratic Congress; Kola Abiola, People’s Redemption Party; Prof. Christopher Imumulen, Accord Party; and Prof. Peter Umeadi of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.

Others are Yusuf Mamman Dan Talle, Allied Peoples Movement; Hamza Al-Mustapha, Action Alliance; Sani Yusuf, Action Democratic Party; Nnnadi Osita, Action Peoples Party; Oluwafemi Adenuga, Boot Party; Nwanyanwu Daniel Daberechukwu, Zenith Labour Party; and Osakwe Felix Johnson, National Rescue Movement.

“Tinubu Bola Ahmed of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” the INEC chairman said.
