The management of the University College Hospital, Ibadan has described as untrue the rumour doing the rounds that Ebun Oloyede, popular Yoruba actor widely known as Olaiya Igwe, was confirmed dead at the hospital on Monday.

Rumour went viral via the social media on Monday that Igwe passed on shortly after undergoing a major surgery on kidney stone at the tertiary teaching hospital.

The Public Relations Officer of UCH, Toye Akinrinola, told Oyo Reporters that he was not aware of his death.

Akinrinola said, “I am not aware of anything like that. A journalist had called me earlier on the matter. We just checked; there is no record of him at the Emergency Unit of the hospital. At least, if he died at the hospital, the Mortuary record should have revealed that to us.”

When Oyo Reporters called, veteran actor, Dele Odule, dispelled news of his death.

He said, “Rumour of his death is untrue. Olaiya is still very much alive. I spoke with him on the telephone about an hour ago and he was very much alive.”

One of Olaiya Igwe’s fans had posted on the social media that he was confirmed dead on Monday morning at the UCH, Ibadan, while undergoing a kidney stone surgery.

Recall that Olaiya Igwe had, last week Tuesday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, marked his birthday anniversary with his teaming fans celebrating him on social media.
