A fresh process for the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor for the University of Ibadan has begun, Oyo Reporters has learnt.
The development followed the cancelation of the earlier process of appointment by the Governing Council of the university.
The Council announced the cancellation in a statement made available to Oyo Reporters on Sunday.
This online news platform recalls that the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor was stalled last year due to controversies that trailed the process.
A new Vice-Chancellor was to be appointed last year to succeed Prof. Idowu Olayinka whose tenure expired last November.
The failure to appoint a substantive VC as a result of the crisis that trailed the exercise ushered Prof. Babatunde Ekanola in as acting VC, December 1, 2020.
Chairman of Council, John Oyegun, said that the body had commenced a fresh process in the appointment of a substantive VC.
The Registrar, Olubunmi Faluyi, in a statement made available to The Point, on Sunday, said the Council had ordered that the position be re-advertised.
According to the statement, the decision was taken during the meeting of the Council on Friday.
The statement read, “This is to inform the University community and the general public that, at its meeting on Friday, 02 July, the Governing Council considered, among other things, the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor for the University.
“Council decided to cancel the previous exercise and start the entire process afresh. Consequently, the Council directed that the position of the Vice-Chancellor be re-advertised immediately.
“The Directorate of Public Communication has been directed to do the needful in this regard.”
