The Chairman, Governing Council, The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, has described as untrue the rumour doing the rounds that the Rector and other management team of the institution had been sacked.
News went viral on social media on Thursday that the Kayode Ogunmola-led management was sacked through a letter written by the governing council of the polytechnic on Wednesday.
In an interview, the Chairman, Governing Council of The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, Prof. Sunday Adesola, said the report doing the rounds was incorrect and muddled up.
Adesola said, “They have served for the statutory period of six months so I am surprised that people said we sacked them. The use of the word sack is derogatory. The people had meritoriously served. In public service regulation, acting appointment is for six months. They had served for 18months.
“By the time we resumed as governing council members of the institution, they had served for 11 months. We just came at that time so it was not a good time to ask them to go because that would be wrong.
“A substantive management was sacked in 2018, there was also an acting management that was suspended. When we resumed, we were dealing with four sets of management. That was what happened.
“It was a draft of our letter that someone just picked. The correct position is that they have been relieved of their duties because the law does not allow them to stay beyond six months.”
As things stand, Mr M.B. Fasasi, a senior lecturer, has been appointed as the new acting Rector of the polytechnic, while Mr. B.L.Ojo was appointed as the acting Registrar with Mr. Malik Abudulaziz now acting as the acting Bursar.
