The Yoruba World Congress, an umbrella body of self-determination and socio-cultural groups of Yoruba descent, has dissolved its Interim Executive Committee comprising the 16-member secretaries and directors.

YWC, in addition, stated its resolve to inaugurate a four-man support committee to work with its President General, Prof. Banji Akintoye, pending its next Convention when substantive officers would be inaugurated.

The decision was made known in a communique signed by Princess Tanimowo Okusaga on behalf of other members at the end of YWC special meeting in Ibadan on Saturday.

The communique read in parts, “Yoruba World Congress reassures the Yoruba people that YWC is one and not in conflict. Neither is YWC in any crisis and it is functioning smoothly and has great confidence in its leader, Prof. Banji Akintoye.

“We are also grateful to all our leaders, officers and youths who have worked assiduously with the leader and President General to keep the organisation strong and achievement oriented. YWC is also grateful to God and proud of its phenomenal achievements in one year.

“Some of these achievements are listed as motivating the Yoruba people to defend their  homeland; development and empowerment of Yoruba youth.

Others are revival and development of Yoruba Language; engagement with a Yoruba Diaspora; expansion across the state and local governments where Yoruba people are living in Nigeria.”

According to it, YWC continues to attract skillful and influential Yoruba personalities locally and abroad.

It added, “The organisation has expanded so wide and so quickly; and because of its involvement in many activities, it has become imperative that YWC upgrade its organisation.

“The Interim Executive Committee, consisting of the 16-member secretaries and directors stand dissolved immediately.

“A four-man support committee to work with the President General and leader pending the next Convention to elect substantive officers be set up immediately.”

In attendance at the meeting are Akin Adejuwon, Ariyike Obet, Nureen Soludero, Bunmi Abidogun, Kunle Adesokan, Muda Ogunsola, Chief Aduranigba, Chief Imam  Iyanda Wasiu Abiodun, Paul Bankole and Princess Oyeronke Akinlolu.

Others are Wale Adeniran, Otunba F. W. Olukoya, Femi Adefolaju, B. O. Jaiyeoba and George Akinola.
