The apex Yoruba youth group, Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association, has described the decision of some governors in the South-West not to reopen religious centres as commendable.
The group noted that despite the fact that the Federal Government set preconditions to reopen churches and mosques, some states in the zone were yet to lift the ban on religious gathering.
Olalekan Hammed, National President, YYSA, in a statement signed and made available to journalists in Ibadan, on Thursday, said, “It is insensitive and risky to allow any kind of gathering at this period.
“Although, guidelines were layed down as reopening conditions that must be abided with by all worship centres, notwithstanding, it is safer to ensure continuous ban of gathering till further notice.
“Religious leaders and worshippers would feel relaxed as soon as they resume regular service. Parents will take the opportunity to use religious centres for wedding ceremony and parties.”
The statement urged universities and other research centres to intensify efforts in finding solution to the spread of the virus.
“It is when we have the vaccine readily available that banning of religious gathering should be lifted.
“All necessary precautionary measures have to be put in place without further delay,” it read.
