Residents of Biseni clan in Bayelsa State have applauded the efforts of Dr. Nannette Ariaye Igwe-Icho and the Faith Pavilion, Texas, USA over the three-day medical outreach recently held in the community.
The medical outreach, according to the people, has brought much-needed healthcare relief to residents who were hitherto .
They explained that the event, held from December 22 to 24, 2024, provided free medical services to over 6,345 people, with support from a 62-member volunteer medical team.
The medical professionals, drawn from renowned hospitals including the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa; Diete Koki Hospital, Opolo; and the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, treated various ailments such as eye defects, hypertension, diabetes, and malaria.
The outreach also saw the distribution of over 2,000 free eyeglasses to those with vision challenges.
Residents of Biseni expressed immense gratitude for the gesture, describing it as life-changing. One of the beneficiaries, overwhelmed with emotion, said, “We have never witnessed anything like this before. Receiving free medication and eyeglasses without paying a single kobo is truly a blessing.”
Dr. Igwe-Icho, who co-sponsored the medical outreach with the Faith Pavilion, Texas, USA, highlighted the importance of quality healthcare access for all.
“We are honored to serve the Biseni people. Our mission is to ensure that underserved communities have access to essential healthcare services,” she said.
The outreach was a remarkable success, with the Biseni community coming together to thank the sponsors and medical volunteers for their selfless service. Many residents are already looking forward to future medical missions, hopeful that the life-saving initiative will continue to improve lives in the region.
Meanwhile, the chiefs and elders of the Egbebiri communities in Biseni Clan has conferred a prestigious chieftaincy title upon Dr Ariayefah Icho-Igwe, daughter of the late Rev. Harrison and Princess Igwe (both late) in recognition of her contributions to the Clan and humanity in general.
They praised her efforts for facilitating the donation of relief materials to victims of the flooding that rocked the communities recently and for the medical outreach.
On the occasion, she commissioned a solar water project which she funded at at Egbebiri to facilitate local access to clean water.
The event was attended by youths of Egbebiri as well as dignitaries among whom are Chief N A Ogu, Rev. John Oluwajana, Chief Tamunopriye Owugah, Chief Amatari Tombofah, Chief Amos August, Chief Sunday Ndiwari, Comrades Kemmy Okuyefah and Lucky Bennett.
Others are Mr Tonye Okokuro, Vincent Okokuro, Mr Mike Okokuro, Mr Cornelius Okpurubia and officers of the Nigerian Police Force.
