A man named Ekene Agha, 42, was on Monday, remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre by the Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl.
The suspect and the victim’s mother are said to be co-workers.
Agha was arraigned on two counts of indecent assault and defilement.
Peter Nwaka, Chief Magistrate, turned down the defendant’s plea.
He ordered that the suspect be remanded in the correctional centre until March 15 pending the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
According to Inspector Thomas Nurudeen, prosecutor, the offence was committed on January 6, 2023, around 3:30 pm at Number 40, Ago Palace Road, Okota, Lagos State contrary to Sections 261 and 135 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The charge brought against him read that “You, Ekene Agha, on January 6, 2023, around 3:30 pm, at Number 40, Ago Palace Road, Okota, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did indecently treat a child of three years (name withheld) by inserting your finger into her and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 135 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”
