A three-star hotel in Ibadan, Kakanfo Inn and Conference Centre, on Saturday, distributed foodstuffs to 100 indigent households in Kudeti area of Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

According to the head, Aboderin family, Chief Olutunde Aboderin, the palliatives distribution was aimed at cushioning the effects of the harsh economy made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Mogaji, in an address at the Lekan Are ICT Centre, Saint David’s Anglican Church, Kudeti, Ibadan, said, “This is not the first time that Kakanfo Inn and Conference Centre is doing this.

“This initiative is to cushion the effects of the harsh economy on the old indigent residents of Kudeti community.

“Ordinarily, the founder of the hotel, late Dr Lekan Are, would want to touch the lesser privileged at a time like this if he was still alive.

“It is a way of giving back to the society. This is also a way of keeping the legacy of the founder of Kakanfo Inn and Conference Centre alive. It is the company’s way of being involved and doing our bit in assisting the poor indigent residents.

“We implore our people to desist from turning deaf ears to advice. It is disappointing that many of our people still hold the notion that COVID-19 is the disease of the affluent.”

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Rukaya Hammed, who spoke on behalf of others, described the gesture by the hotel as well directed.

She said, “Times are hard. This is a good step. It is a big relief for us and we pray to God to bless the givers.”

The Operations Manager of the hotel, Oreoluwa Esan, said, “Basically, what we gave was in the light of the COVID-19 scourge.

“This time, we decide to come to the aid of the old people who are presently feeling the pressure of the hard time. We still hope to do some more.”
