IBEDC mourns Capt. Okunbo, billionaire industrialist

The management of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc. has commiserated with family and friends of its pioneer Director, Captain Idahosa Wells Okunbo, who passed on at age 63.

Okunbo, a philanthropist and leading industrialist, played a major role in the take off of IBEDC as a key player in the nation’s power sector.

A statement signed by the Chairman, Board of Directors of IBEDC, Dr. Olatunde Ayeni, described late Okunbo as a man with “sagacious business acumen.”

The statement read that “The management and staff of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc., with a heavy heart, announce the passing of our esteemed investor and pioneer Director, Captain Idahosa Wells Okunbo, which sad event occurred on the 8th of August 2021 in the United Kingdom at the age of 63.

According to it, Okunbo was pivotal to the establishment of IBEDC and was involved in piloting the growth of the company to the present heights.

The statement read that “His chain of businesses spanned across the gamut of hospitality, security, real estate, oil servicing, and agriculture. A renowned and accomplished business mogul, who contributed immensely to the development of the Nigerian economy by providing jobs and substance to men and women through his businesses.

“We have lost a distinguished Nigerian, an illustrious businessman with a heart of gold.”  

It described the deceased as one of Nigeria’s most outstanding philanthropist whose death created a vacuum that would be difficult to fill.

It urged family and friends of the late Captain to take solace in the fact that his legacy outlive him.
