Mr Olufemi Oguntoyinbo, the governorship candidate of New Nigeria People’s Party in Ogun State, has said that his agenda for running for governorship position is to rebuild the state.
The assertion was made on Thursday by Oguntoyinbo while reacting to questions on ‘Speak Out,’ a guest forum organised by the Correspondents Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ibadan, Oyo State.
With his vision and requisite qualification to perform as governor if elected, he said that he was not ready to betray the trust reposed to him by his supporters and the party, hence, could not trade his slot to contest for anybody else’s ambition. If elected as governor, he said that his victory in the coming elections in the state would usher a new dawn for the residents.
He said, “I promised the good people of Ogun State a lot. Let’s start from insecurity. There is no nation that is in darkness that can overcome the challenges of insecurity. It is important for any nation that wants to develop to have steady electricity or power supply.
“We are going to collaborate with the existing electricity company to provide needed equipment to ensure that we have uninterrupted power supply. I live in Redemption Camp and there is no interruption of power supply, likewise EweKoro. If that is possible in those places, why can’t it be replicated across the state? This would attract investors to our state.
“Part of agenda is to generate electricity for Ogun State. Electricity will make it possible for us to have CCTV camera. This enable us to monitor things and people who are coming into the state and those going out.
“I promised operation ‘zero potholes’ on all the existing roads. Also, I promised the people of Ogun State health insurance. For our pensioners who had served the state meritoriously. We shall give them health insurance cards. I also promised the pensioners the N68billion that the current administration in the state is owing them. In the education sector, I would make sure that in accordance with the NNPP policy, all our children enjoy free education from primary to secondary school.
“If you want to monitor vote buying, make a policy that if anybody is caught buying votes, let the person go to life jail or be executed. The current administration, saying that the youths in Ogun State are Yahoo boys, is wrong. In any developed nation, there must be provision of conducive atmosphere before you enforce or place sanction on deterrents. This is where they are wanting.
“By the grace of God, I have promised the people of the state establishment of vocational centres where those of them who learnt vocations but can’t afford the cost of buying equipment can have access to state-of-the-art equipment for use on payment of tokens. With this, prostitution would be reduced to the barest.
“I have a model of the Ogun State of my dream which I want to effect if elected into office. I will not be cracking my brain. I am coming to bring total development and difference which no politician has done before. I am coming up with new Ogun State. Building of houses in the state without following the original master plan, is disturbing.”
Asked if he could succumb to pressure to collapse his structure with any of the big political parties during election, he said that since he was acting on God’s directives, he would not give in to such a proposal.
He added, “I am not stepping down for anybody because I am not ready to tarnish my profile and I am ready to disappoint followers, fans and lovers. We are not stepping down; we are facing the journey.”
He faulted President Muhammadu Buhari’s policy on the new naira notes, noting that acting against the Supreme Court orders had resulted into controversy.
