The governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has noted that the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, neither called nor sent a text to him on the explosion that rocked Ibadan on Tuesday, January 16.
Governor Makinde gave the indication during the condolence visit by Peter Obi, Presidential candidate of the Labour Party to him in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Giving gratitude to Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, who came to commiserate with the state on Monday morning, Makinde said President Bola Tinubu had called.
Recall that close to 10 casualties were confirmed with no fewer than 50 persons suffering varying degrees of injuries in the explosion that rocked a part of Adeyi Avenue, Bodija, Ibadan, and affecting about 58 houses on Tuesday, January 16.
The governor raised concern that while Atiku did not pay a condolence visit, he also did not commiserate with the state in any way on the explosion despite the magnitude of the tragedy that occurred.
“I want to thank you (Obi) especially for the visit. Out of the three major candidates who contested the 2023 election, only Atiku Abubakar, my own leader and our candidate hasn’t called to commiserate the state.
“I am saying this openly so that our leaders will know that we have time for politics and others. I want to thank you once again for coming,” Makinde told Obi, who has Aisha Yesufu in his entourage.
