Nigerians are already tired of years of waste and misrule midwifed by both the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress, the Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has stated.
Adebayo spoke on Friday at the end of a two-day South-West summit for critical stakeholders with the theme, ‘Common interest and strategic approach for 2023,’ held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Asserting that the current state of the nation necessitated the entry of the party in the 2023 poll, he dispelled the speculation that the SDP might merge with either the APC or PDP.
“The SDP is not in alliance with any political party. SDP is not stepping down for any political party, but if we have any political party that wants to join us, they can join us. SDP is contesting this election.
“We are not stepping down for any political party because that will be a great betrayal to the people of Nigeria. People are running away from PDP and APC, so if we disappoint them now, we have taken them back to the people that are making them to suffer.
“We are in the race to take people out of poverty. No good schools, no healthcare services, no road; these are the reasons why we are in the race,” he said.
Others, including Ambassador Yemi Farombi, the National Secretary of the party, Chief Olu Agunloye; former governor of Ekiti State, Chief Segun Oni, and Mulikat Akande, the Oyo North Senatorial candidate of SDP; were unanimous that Nigerians required a set of visionary and selfless leaders to run the affairs of the nation.
According to them, the SDP rose to the occasion to field a charismatic personality as presidential candidate in a bid to address tge current socio-economic logjam.
In addition, the SDP stakeholders advised the citizens against selling their votes for money.
Among those at the summit were the SDP Chairman in Oyo State, Michael Okunlade; the House of Representatives candidate of the party in Ibadan North East/South East, Deji Aboderin; the House of Assembly candidate for Ibadan North East Constituency 1, Lawal Mumin; and the House of Assembly candidate for Ilaje constituency in Ondo State, Fadesola Ojamomi.
