The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, on Wednesday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to address the nation urgently in view of the ongoing agitation by the youth noting that the experience of the citizens on #EndSARS protest had become unbearable.
Oba Adetunji made the call in a statement in Ibadan saying that no one but the President should address the people in the present circumstance as attempts by other personalities would amount to “scratching the matter on the surface.”
The statement indicated that the experience of the people in the past two weeks had been ‘very tough and most unbearable,’ adding that only a democratically elected President had the capacity to address the demands of the protesters.
It read, “As the father of the nation with avowed commitment to protect lives and properties, it has become imperative for the President to speak to Nigerians especially the protesting youths.”
It added that hoodlums, who do not understand the significance of the protests, were taking undue advantage to cause mayhem and as well extort members of the public.
The statement urged the youths to embrace dialogue stressing that experience had shown that to jaw-jaw was better than to war-war. It read that those in government were not living in gilded cage, so could not have been irresponsive to the yearnings and aspirations of the people as being speculated in some quarters.
