Oba Lekan Balogun, CFR, Olubadan of Ibadanland, has described the death of Sheikh Abdulfatai Adio Alaga, second in line to the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abdulganiy Ajigbotomokekere, as a big loss to Ibadanland in general and the Muslim community in particular.
This was expressed in a statement issued and made available to journalists in Ibadan on Thursday by Oladele Ogunsola, Personal Assistant (Media) to the Olubadan. Born in 1944, Sheik Adio Alaga passed on at age 80 on Tuesday.
The statement quoted the Olubadan as saying that late Sheikh Alaga was a very dependable and loyal lieutenant to leaders in the Islamic circle, adding that he made good representations whenever he was called upon to stand in.
Olubadan stated, “his death is a great loss to the League of Imams and Alfas both in and outside the state. “A leader in his own right, he was very passionate about anything that pertains to Ibadan, ready to commit both his time and resources without making noise about it. “He led a very good life and left good and enduring legacies for his children and family. The Islamic world has lost a refined and complete gentleman cleric.”
Olubadan further stated that “We should all take the death of our dear brother in the usual Islamic way of returning all praises to the Almighty Allah, the giver and taker of life and the all powerful and all knowing for we have no power to say no when He says yes.
“We will miss him, no doubt, but we have to console ourselves with his good deeds while here with us and pray for the forgiveness of his shortcomings and for his return to be accepted by the Almighty Allah.
“I share with the family the grief of this moment and pray that the Almighty Allah will comfort and uphold all of you.”
