Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has stressed the need for traditional rulers to pay attention to security and sustenance of peaceful co-existence in their domains to foster unity and socio-economic development in Nigeria.
Osinbajo gave the advice at the University of Ibadan venue of the 100th day anniversary of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, organised by the Yoruba World Centre in conjunction with the Oyo State Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, Alaroye Newspapers and TV, and Tunde Odunlade Arts Gallery.
The Vice President, represented on the occasion by Chief Adeniyi Akintola (SAN), said that he recognized the leadership roles of traditional rulers in the society. He prayed for long life and peaceful reign for the monarch.
The Otun Olubadan, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, Chairman of the occasion, who was represented by Chief Sarafadeen Alli, commended the Yoruba World Centre and other bodies in charge of the epoch event.
Earlier, the Chairman, Board of Directors, Yoruba World Centre and publisher of ALAROYE Newspapers, Ogbẹni Alao Adedayo, expressed gratitude to God and the organizers of the event.
Adedayo stated that the event was organized to welcome Oba Lekan Balogun to the throne and as a mark of honour as well as celebration of Yoruba tradition and culture.
Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Oyo State, described the event as the celebration of Olubadan and the Yoruba tradition and culture.
Among other traditional rulers, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, represented by Adimula Akande Babatunde Ogunwusi; and the Orangun of Oke-Ila, Oba Adedokun Omoniyi Abolarin, and the Ibadan high chiefs, were present at the event.
