The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State has rejected the reported appointment of Chief Bisi Ilaka to the party’s Membership Revalidation, Mobilisation and Registration (MRMR) Committee.
The ADC described the claim as fraudulent and threatened legal action in view of the development.
Ilaka, a former Chief of Staff to Governor Seyi Makinde, was accused by the party of falsely presenting himself as a member of the committee.
In a statement issued by Bimpe Adelowo, its State Publicity Secretary, Oyo ADC described Ilaka as an ‘impostor,’ warning him and his alleged supporters to refrain from interfering in the party’s affairs.
The party stated that it would not hesitate to seek judicial intervention against Ilaka and what it termed his ‘collaborators’ if the controversy persist.
The statement further criticised Ilaka’s political trajectory, alleging that he had repeatedly contested elections without success and had now resorted to what it described as undemocratic means in pursuit of political ambition.
While apologising to party members and the public over the confusion generated by the dispute, the ADC accused unnamed individuals it referred to as “political aliens” of attempting to create internal crises within the party.
The state chapter maintained that Ilaka is neither recognised by it nor nominated for any national assignment, stressing that appointments into national committees must be formally sponsored by the state chapter and transmitted through the State Chairman in line with party procedures.
According to the party, Oyo State’s officially recognised representatives on the MRMR Committee are Mr Ayo Akinyemi as Chairman and Professor Folake Tafita as Secretary, whose nominations were duly endorsed and inaugurated at the party’s National Headquarters in Abuja.
It added that no communication indicating rejection of any state nomination had been received from the national leadership.
Reaffirming its organisational structure, the ADC said it currently maintains functional executive committees across the 33 local government areas and 351 wards in Oyo State.
The party therefore urged members of the public and its supporters to disregard reports linking Ilaka or his associates to the MRMR Committee, describing such claims as inconsistent with established party processes.
Members were also encouraged to participate in the ongoing online membership registration exercise via the party’s official portal.
The Oyo ADC reiterated its commitment to unity and internal discipline, while pledging to continue attracting credible individuals capable of strengthening the party’s structure in the state.
