The 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has announced a temporary break from public activities to attend to his health.
In a statement on Friday titled, ‘Supporting Healthcare, Building Hope,’ the former Anambra State governor explained that his physician advised him to take some rest after feeling unwell during an event in Enugu.
Obi revealed that he visited a hospital in Enugu, where he was given medication and instructed to suspend engagements for a few days.

“Earlier in Enugu, I was not feeling well. I visited the hospital where the doctor gave me some medication and advised me to take a day or two rest. In obedience to the doctor’s advice,
“I will not be able to meet up with all my scheduled engagements within and outside the country this weekend. I sincerely apologise for any inconveniences this might cause and humbly plead for understanding,” Obi said.
Before receiving the medical advice, Obi had attended several engagements, including a tourism event in Enugu and a visit to Good Hope Specialist Hospital, Isulo, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
He said he made an initial contribution of ₦10 million to support the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria in acquiring and revitalising the hospital.
The facility, according to him, will be transformed into a comprehensive health complex with a School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology.
He commended the Diocese for its vision, stressing that faith-based organisations have continued to play a vital role in advancing healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
Obi also noted that he proceeded to Owerri afterwards to attend a dinner organised by Barrister Nnaemeka Maduagwu in honour of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, before receiving medical advice to slow down.
