Senator Sharafadeen Alli, representing Oyo South Senatorial District, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakunlehin, Ige Olakunlehin I.

In a personally signed statement made available to journalists on Monday in Ibadan, Senator Alli, who also holds the traditional title of Ekarun Balogun of Ibadanland, described the monarch’s passing as a monumental loss to Ibadanland, Oyo State, and Nigeria as a whole.

He paid glowing tribute to the late royal father, describing him as a symbol of wisdom, peace, and continuity whose brief reign restored dignity and vitality to the Ibadan traditional institution.

“Oba Olakunlehin’s reign, though short, was deeply impactful. He provided fatherly guidance and helped steer Ibadanland with calm and wisdom at a critical time,” Alli stated.

The lawmaker highlighted the monarch’s unwavering commitment to the service of his people, noting that his humility, clarity of purpose, and deep love for Ibadan will be long remembered.

“As the Senator representing Oyo South and Ekarun Balogun of Ibadanland, I join the people of Ibadan and beyond in mourning the departure of a revered and noble king. Kabiyesi’s legacy of service and unity will endure in the hearts of all who knew him,” he added.

Senator Alli extended heartfelt condolences to the Olubadan-in-Council, the Oyo State Government, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), and the entire Ibadan community.

He prayed for the repose of the monarch’s soul and for divine comfort for the bereaved family and all who mourn his passing.
