Plans are underway to celebrate the 84th birthday of Oba Adebayo Akande (MFR) and the 16th anniversary of Splash 105.5FM, the first privately owned radio station in Ibadan, the management of West-Midlands Communication Limited, has said.
Recall that Splash 105.5 FM Station was founded by the newly installed king.
According to the General Manager of the station, Tunde Olawuwo, the anniversary will feature a public lecture billed for 10 o’clock on Friday, July 21, at the Trenchards Hall, University of Ibadan.
Olawuwo, while featuring on Parrot Xtra/Ayekooto anchored by Olayinka Agboola on Splash 105.5fm on Tuesday, said that the annual lecture was aimed at enriching Nigerians with right sets of values, stressing that there was need to sensitize the public on topical and timely issues affecting the nation.
He stated that arrangements had been concluded to ensure that the event records tremendous success, hinting that the guest speaker for the day is a renowned Economist and pioneer Director of Centre for Petroleum Energy, Economics and Law, University of Ibadan, Prof. Adeola Adenikinju.
Adenikinju is billed to speak on ‘Fuel subsidy removal: Causes, impact, adjustment responses’.
The event would attract eminent personalities, including Chief Bayo Oyero, former President of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, as the chairman of the occasion.
The GM said that necessary safety measures had been taken in collaboration with the management of the University of Ibadan for smooth and uninterrupted programme.
Expressing gratitude to fans and advertisers for their support to the station in the past 16 years, Olawuwo said, “We appreciate our listeners and advertisers. We are using this opportunity to pledge that the best is yet to come from us.
“We have been ahead of others and we will continue to work hard to keep the momentum. Splash 105.5 FM and the sister station, Lagelu 96.7 FM, are the people’s stations. We are ever conscious of our responsibilities towards our listeners. We will not let them down.”
