Politicians across stratas have been urged to focus on issue-based campaigns and avoid promoting unsubstantiated allegations ahead of elections as campaigns intensify in the country.
The South West Guild of Online Publishers (SWEGOP) made the call in a statement issued today, stressing that Nigeria had come of age to show worthy examples in its democratic journey.
In a statement by its acting Chairman, Chief Tunde Busari, and Publicity Secretary, Mr Remi Oladoye, said political campaigns should centre on policies, development plans and solutions to the challenges besetting the land.
It urged politicians to use the available platforms to explain how they intend to address the needs of the electorate, warning that misinformation could undermine public trust in the democratic process.
SWEGOP also advised political actors to promote responsible communication and peaceful political engagement.
