Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, alongside his counterparts from Osun, Ekiti, Ondo and Ogun states; Gboyega Oyetola, Kayode Fayemi, Rotimi Akeredolu and Dapo Abiodun respectively, on Tuesday bagged the Amotekun Governors’ Award by the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State Television.
Also awarded were the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye; the G.O of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi; Apostle Kayode Abiara of Christ Apostolic Church, Agbala Itura; Bishop TV Adelakun of Victory International Church; and Apostle Sunday Popoola of World Communication Ministry in the religious category.
Other categories of the awards given on the occasion are that of the Corporate Partnership, Service to Humanity award, Trailblazers and Meritorious award, Meritorious award, Corporate awards, Special Recognition and Agency Partnership award.
Professors Banji Akintoye of Ilana Omo Oduduwa and Akin Mabogunje with Dr Yemi Farounbi, alongside 16 others bagged the Trailblazers and Meritorious award.
According to the Chairman of BCOS, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the awards, were given to the different categories of persons and organizations in recognition of their impacts on the society.
The awards to the five state governors were in acknowledgement of their response to the security needs in the South-West in the wake of kidnappings and surge in other forms of crimes and criminalities in the zone.
Former Chairman of First Bank of Nigeria, Ibukun Awosika, who delivered the BCOS 40th anniversary lecture, lamented the current state of the nation noting that the media had been unable to fully maximize its potential as the true watchdog of the society.
She, however, lauded the BCOS for playing its part in the sustenance of democracy and preservation of the Yoruba cultural values among others.
A book on BCOS TV at 40 was unveiled at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan after the lecture/symposium held on Tuesday.

The corporation gave awards of excellence to a total of 114 of its staff members on the account of their outstanding performances over the years.
