AKINWALE ABOLUWADE
Taye Currency, a popular Ibadan-based Fuji musician, has demanded a public apology and retraction from media personality, Bamidele Adeyanju, over an allegedly defamatory interview aired on his “Agbaletu” TV show.
Currency, through his lawyer, Dr. Olutayo Oyewale, insisted that the apology must be made on the same platform where the interview was aired, in line with the principle of equal prominence.
The dispute followed an interview conducted by Adeyanju with another musician, Ridwan Rolex Dee, who allegedly issued threats against Currency.
The matter has reportedly been petitioned to the Oyo State Commissioner of Police.
Adeyanju had, however, removed the interview and issued an apology, stating that he had no intention to defame or threaten the Fuji artiste.
In a letter dated March 30, 2026, and signed by his lawyer, Olohunloye Ibraheem, Adeyanju maintained that he had distanced himself from the views expressed during the interview.
The letter noted that the broadcaster operates a standard disclaimer on his platforms, adding that the video had been taken down to prevent further misinterpretation.
“Our client reiterates the ‘opinions expressed’ disclaimer on his platforms and dissociates himself from the views expressed,” the letter read.
However, Currency, in a rejoinder dated March 31, 2026, argued that the steps taken were insufficient.
“It is both legally and morally untenable to suggest that any form of retraction or apology be issued in a manner that does not correspond with the medium through which the injury was inflicted,” the letter stated.
He insisted that the retraction and apology must be made during a live broadcast of the “Agbaletu” TV show, warning that failure to comply could result in legal action.
The letter added, “Our client desires a full retraction and apology on your client’s live show, and this will be widely acceptable to our client forthwith.”
