He was received on Sunday at the Gateway International Airport, Iperu, by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, as well as other South-West governors.

The development was confirmed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) by the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun.

Olusegun wrote, “President Bola Tinubu has arrived at the Gateway International Airport, Iperu, Ogun State, ahead of his visit to Ijebu-Ode to attend the eighth-day prayer ceremony for the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.

“He is accompanied by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and was received by a delegation of dignitaries led by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Chairman of the Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, and other South-West governors.”

The eighth-day prayer is scheduled to take place at the Dipo Dina International Stadium, one of Ijebu-Ode’s largest public venues.

The Awujale, a revered Yoruba monarch, passed away on July 13 at the age of 91 and was buried the following day according to Islamic rites.

Oba Adetona, who reigned for 65 years, was one of Nigeria’s longest-serving traditional rulers and a prominent voice in both national and regional affairs.

Security has been tightened across Ijebu-Ode, especially around the Dipo Dina Stadium, the Awujale’s palace, and his private residence in Igbeba, ahead of the event.
