A Yoruba group called the Igbo for President Solidarity Congress, on Tuesday in Ibadan, said the presidency should be ceded to the South-Eastern part of the country in 2023 having being denied the opportunity for long.
The group, which said, “Igbo 2023 presidency is not negotiable,” urged other geo-political zones in the country to support the course in making the dream to come to reality in the interest of peace.
The National President of IPSC, Dr. Olukayode Oshin, said on Tuesday that the group would champion a third force party to contest for President the existing political parties failed to accept the move.
He said, “The South-West zonal members and leaders of the Igbos in collaboration with the IPSC have watched the interest and patriotic concern of individual declaration to support Igbo for President by elders statemen from the North, such as Alhaji Balarabe Musa, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.) and others like Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Pa Ruben Fasoranti, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Bode George, General Alani Akinrinade, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu and other from the south.
“There won’t be any agitation for Biafra once Igbo becomes the president come 2023. We are working underneath to persuade other groups, political parties. We are still going to meet with the national president of Eze Ndigbo over our plan.”
On calls for Yoruba Nation, Osin said Yoruba people have never been marginalised since the inception of Nigeria, adding that there is no need for call for break away.
“People agitating for secession should calm down because those that tried it before failed. Sessesion will weaken our strength; if we love Nigeria, then we must work for the peace and progress of the nation.”
Meanwhile, the Eze Ndigbo of Oyo State, Dr. Alex Anozie has said that great things would begin to happen in Nigeria as soon as an Igbo emerge as President in 2023.
