Oba John Bolarinwa, the Onigboho of Igboho, said in Ibadan on Tuesday that the traditional rulers are currently working in partnership with other stakeholders to end insecurity and the growing crime rate in the country.

Oba Bolarinwa hinted that series of meetings were being held in order to find way forward bearing in mind the danger of being indifferent to the pervasive security situation.

He said that series of meetings bothering on the state of the nation, with particular reference to the South-West, were held recently at the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

The Onigboho spoke in an interview with journalists during a thank-you visit to the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, on his upgrade to a beaded-crown wearing king.

It would be recalled that Governor Seyi Makinde recently presented the Onigboho with the traditional beaded-crown.

Bolarinwa said the Oke-Ogun and Ibarapa zones of Oyo State, which were the epicenter of banditry and kidnapping, would rise above the challenges that were being faced soon.

He said, “It is the duty of traditional rulers to join hands together to end insecurity and brigandage. We, traditional rulers, held series of meetings. We even went to the palace of the Ooni in Ile-Ife.

“We held security meetings. The Obas in Yoruba land discussed the situation in the country and I know that sooner than later, there will be peace.

“In Oke Ogun, we held a meeting on insecurity at the palace of the Okere of Saki. The meeting was on the way forward but we cannot open the lid on the details of our discussion at the meeting because of the sensitive nature of security matters.”

The monarch, who prayed for peace to reign in the land, expressed gratitude to the Olubadan for his hands of fellowship to the people of Igboho and the roles that he played towards his upgrade as a beaded-crown wearing king.

Earlier in his address of welcome, Oba Adetunji prayed for peace in Yoruba land, Oke Ogun and the country in general.

Present at the event are the wife of the Olubadan, Olori Rasheedat; some first class chiefs and the Press Secretary of the Olubadan, Mr. Adeola Oloko.
