Some Yoruba Obas, led by the Alayemore of Ido-Osun, Oba Adedapo Aderemi in Iwo town on Thursday, prayed for the Director General of Amotekun Corps In Osun State, Chief Amitolu Shittu.
The prayer, held at the Kings Riverside Hotel and Resort, Iwo venue of the 60th birthday of the Mayegun Musulumi of Iwo, Alhaji Debo Badru, was premised on his commitment to the security and progress of the Yoruba nation and respect for the traditional institution.
Among others, the Olu of Ileogbo, Oba Abeeb Adetoyese; Oloja of Agberire, Oba Jacob Oyetunde Alajide; and the Owarisa Obokun, Ilowa-Ijesa, Oba Adebukola Aremu Alli, were present at the prayer.
Oba Aderemi, who is the Secretary, National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, said, “The interest of the Yoruba nation is paramount to all obas in Yoruba land and Amitolu Shittu has demonstrated his commitment to this course.”
The monarch stressed, “We appreciate Shittu’s spirit and courage as well as undoubted passion for the course of the Yoruba. No wonder why he was considered fit for appointment as the Director General of the Amotekun Corps in Osun State.
“He is a courageous fighter and we trust that with people like him as the heads of Amotekun across the Yoruba states, security is being further strengthened. We pray for him, as well as for others, to succeed in the task. It is a big challenge but we pray that God should give you the grace to be accomplished.”
He congratulated the celebrant saying, “Alhaji Debo Badru has the heart of love for God and service to humanity. It is our prayer as Obas in Yoruba land that you will live to have more feathers to your hat.”
Iwo town was awash for the birthday celebration as dignitaries, political associates and captains of industry thronged the ancient city.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, while extolling the virtues of the celebrant, urged the residents of the state to imbibe the spirit of fear in God and dedication to the progress of humanity being exemplified by Badru.
