The Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) in Oyo State has denied allegations linking its governorship candidate, Honourable Bimbo Adekanmbi, and its members to the alleged destruction of campaign billboards belonging to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in parts of Ibadan.
The APM Governorship Campaign Council, in a statement issued on Wednesday, described the allegations as unfounded and urged the APC and its governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, to provide evidence to support their claims.
The council maintained that Adekanmbi was a peaceful politician and insisted that the APM had no involvement in any act of violence or destruction of property.
It also accused the APC of making allegations against the party to gain public support ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The APM further criticised the APC over other recent allegations involving the party, including claims relating to an internal crisis and a reported diphtheria outbreak in the state.
It argued that the opposition party should focus on presenting its programmes to the electorate.
The campaign council expressed confidence in its chances in the 2027 election, saying it believed residents would consider the performance of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration when deciding which party to support.
It, however, called on security agencies to investigate the alleged destruction of the APC billboards and establish those responsible. The council also urged its members to remain peaceful during campaign activities.
The statement was signed by Yinka Oladoyinbo, Director of Communication and Spokesperson of the Oyo State APM Governorship Campaign Council.
