The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, says it has sensitised 65,432 students in 182 schools across the state on school safety and security between July and September 2026.

The campaign, led by the State Commandant, Augustine Padonu, covered Ibadan, Saki, Igboho, Iseyin, Okeho, Iwere-Ile and other communities across the state’s 33 local government areas.
It followed the May 15, 2026 abduction of pupils and staff from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area.
The sensitisation programme focused on kidnapping prevention, identifying and reporting suspicious activities, drug abuse, cultism, bullying, peer pressure, child protection and emergency response.
The command also promoted evacuation drills, first aid, the formation of Safe School Vanguard Clubs and collaboration among schools, parents and host communities.
Commandant Padonu said the safety of children remained a priority, adding that the command would continue to sensitise and train students to promote a secure learning environment.
However, he identified inadequate patrol vehicles, communication equipment, first-aid kits and other operational facilities as challenges facing the initiative.
The command urged school authorities to fence and illuminate their premises, clear surrounding bushes, control visitors’ access and engage licensed private guards where necessary.
It also appealed to the Oyo State Government, local governments, corporate organisations and individuals to support its efforts, while urging parents, teachers and residents to report suspicious activities around schools to the nearest NSCDC office.
