The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Bimbo Adekanmbi, has described teachers as nation builders.
The politician pledged to sustain policies and programmes aimed at improving their welfare under the proposed Omituntun 3.0 administration.
Adekanmbi made the pledge in a statement issued on Sunday to mark the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, commending teachers for their dedication to nurturing young minds and producing future leaders.
He said the development of any nation depended largely on the quality of its teachers, noting that their contributions to education and society could not be overemphasised.
The APM candidate attributed Oyo State’s improved educational performance, including its third-place ranking nationwide in recent National Examinations Council (NECO) performance metrics, to the commitment and professionalism of teachers.
Adekanmbi also praised Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration for its achievements in the education sector, promising to build on the existing foundation.
He pledged to sustain the prompt payment of teachers’ salaries, including the 25th-of-the-month payment popularly known as GSM Day, as well as promotions, the 27.5 per cent teaching allowance, leave bonuses and 13th-month salary.
The governorship candidate further promised to expand leadership opportunities for teachers, including appointments as permanent secretaries, tutors-general and inspectors-general.
“Teachers are the architects of Oyo State’s future, and under Omituntun 3.0, they will continue to receive the respect, support and opportunities they deserve,” he said.
