AKINWALE ABOLUWADE
President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Moshood Onifade Akinwande as the President of the Surveyors Council of Nigeria has been applauded by the 1981 Set of Ladigbolu Grammar School, Oyo, his alma mater.
SURCON is the statutory body responsible for regulating the surveying profession in the country.
Akinwande is expected to be sworn into office by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, in Abuja on July 21.
The appointment was announced by the 1981 Set of Ladigbolu Grammar School, Oyo in a congratulatory statement signed by its President, Segun Oke, and made available to journalists.
The alumni described the appointment as a recognition of Akinwande’s decades of professional excellence, integrity and commitment to the surveying profession.
According to the statement, the appointment also reflects the enduring values of discipline and academic excellence for which Ladigbolu Grammar School is renowned.
“This landmark appointment is a testament to Surv. Akinwande’s years of dedication, professionalism and excellence in the surveying profession. It is also a proud reflection of the solid foundation, discipline and academic excellence for which our alma mater is known,” the statement read.
The group added that Akinwande’s emergence as the head of the country’s apex surveying regulatory body was a source of pride to the school, the 1981 graduating set, Oyo community and the entire alumni association.
It prayed that God would grant him the wisdom, strength and grace to provide purposeful leadership for the council and advance the surveying profession in Nigeria.
The alumni also urged members of the 1981 Set, other old students of Ladigbolu Grammar School and well-wishers to support the new SURCON president with prayers as he assumes office.
Established by law, the Surveyors Council of Nigeria regulates the practice of surveying in the country. Its membership includes the Surveyors-General of the 36 states, the Surveyor-General of the Federation and other stakeholders in the profession.
Akinwande, who hails from Molete Compound in Oyo Town, Oyo State, retired from the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation in 2018 as Director of Research, Planning and Documentation after a distinguished career in the public service.
