The management of University of Ibadan, on Friday warned UTME candidates who applied to the school not to fall victims to scammers circulating false information about the date for the forthcoming 2020/2021 post UTME screening of the institution on the social media.
The university management, while distancing itself from the false information, indicated that it would send details relating to the examination to the E-mail addresses and phone numbers already provided by applicants.
The Registrar of the university, Olubunmi Faluyi, who announced this in a statement dated March 12, made available to journalists on Friday by Mr Olatunji Oladejo, the Director of Public Communication, UI, said the university had yet to fix a date and venue for the exercise.
The statement titled, ‘2020/2021 Admission date of post UTME: Disclaimer,’ read, “The attention of management has been drawn to a publication being circulated on the social media about the date for the forthcoming 2020/2021 POST UTME screening.
“This is to inform all prospective candidates who had registered for the screening that the University is yet to schedule a date and venue for the exercise.
“Candidates should note that information about the scheduled date of the examination and venue would be sent to their provided E-mail addresses and phone numbers.”
Another statement titled, ‘UI fixes virtual matriculation ceremony for Tuesday, 16th March,’ signed by Oladejo reads, “The management of the University of Ibadan has fixed the virtual matriculation ceremony for 2020/2021 academic session for Tuesday, 16 March, 2021 at 10.00am in the Trenchard Hall of the institution.
“A total number of 8197 newly admitted students are expected to participate in the ceremony in which the University Registrar, Mrs. Olubunmi Faluyi, will administer the matriculation oath on them.
“A break down of the fresh students shows 4,243 are from the conventional mode while 3,954 are from the open and distance education for parity of esteem.
“The matriculation speaker is Dr. Boluwatife Ikwunne, an alumna of the University of Ibadan, a 2020 Young Innovation Leaders Fellow and winner of the 2021 Rhodes Scholarship for West Africa, set to undertake postgraduate studies in Clinical and Therapeutic Neuroscience at the University of Oxford, in October, this year.
“She intends to conduct relevant research in neuroscience to develop prevention strategies and improve treatment options for mental health problems, especially in low and middle-income countries.
“The acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adebola Babatunde Ekanola, will preside over the all-important ceremony.
“All the newly admitted students are expected to join the scheduled zoom meeting titled, ‘University of Ibadan 2021 Matriculation Ceremony,’ on March 16.”
