The year 2026 will usher in mixed socio-economic and political outcomes for Nigeria, Prof. Sabit Ariyo Olagoke, JP, Founder and Spiritual Head of Shafaudeen-In-Islam Worldwide, has stated.
According to Prof. Ariyo, the new year is marked by progress in some sectors and setbacks in others.
The don spoke in a statement released from the organisation’s international headquarters in Wakajaye, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Prof. Olagoke described 2026 as a year of fluctuating developments, likening it to “a sinusoidal wave of socio-economic and political flow” that would affect both individual wellbeing and national growth.
The statement read that the year would favour some segments of society while posing challenges to others. It forecast heightened political rivalry, economic uncertainty that would eventually stabilise, renewed attention to education, and intensified security operations across the country.
“There would be political rivalry between two notable politicians, but the threat of economic stagnation would be resolved. Education will receive renewed attention for a stronger foundation, while security efforts will be intensified nationwide,” it read.
It quoted the cleric to have also expressed concern over moral and religious decline, warning that spirituality could weaken if discipline and scriptural values were neglected, although he noted that corrective efforts would continue.
The release cautioned authorities and citizens to prioritise safety, predicting increased risks of road accidents, emergency aircraft landings and fire outbreaks, including tanker and gas explosions. It called for reforms in sports administration to restore efficiency and competitiveness.
Breaking down his predictions month by month, the Islamic leader said early 2026 would witness increased political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political parties strengthening internal structures and grooming successors.
The don predicted party defections, the possible collapse of at least one political party, and intense political propaganda towards the end of the year.
Prof. Olagoke projected uneven but positive growth, noting that diversification efforts would gradually stabilise the system, although corruption and sabotage could undermine progress if left unchecked.
Education, he said, would receive increased government attention and funding, though challenges such as strikes, decaying infrastructure and institutional sabotage could slow reforms.
Security agencies were expected to record notable successes against criminals and terrorists, even as he warned that some high-profile arrests might not immediately translate into lasting peace.
He also advised continuous vigilance against road crashes, air mishaps and fire incidents throughout the year, stressing the need for both prayers and practical safety measures.
“Drivers must be cautious, aircraft must be properly maintained, and safety campaigns must be intensified to prevent avoidable loss of lives and property,” he warned.
Call for Responsible Leadership
Prof. Olagoke said the predictions were meant to guide proactive governance and responsible leadership, stressing that divine revelations should inspire preventive action rather than fear.
“Good governance is a product of godly leadership, while bad governance is the outcome of bad leadership,” he said.
He urged political leaders to embrace tolerance and prioritise citizens’ welfare, while calling on religious leaders to promote harmony, discipline and patriotism.
“The essence of this revelation is to help the nation avoid stagnation and safeguard our democracy,” he stated.
