The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Bimbo Adekanmbi, says he is prepared for the task of governing the state, promising to consolidate existing development and improve the living standards of residents if elected in 2027.
Adekanmbi said Governor Seyi Makinde had established a development foundation through investments in road infrastructure and other sectors, adding that his administration would focus on unlocking the state’s economic potential.
He noted that the opening up of major road networks across the state had created opportunities for further development.
Speaking on his road infrastructure agenda, the former Commissioner for Finance said his administration would construct 100 kilometres of roads within its first year, with emphasis on rural communities.
He said he had toured all 33 local government areas three times and was familiar with the major road challenges facing residents. Adekanmbi added that his proposed Omituntun 3.0 programme would build on the achievements of the present administration.
The APM candidate also dismissed allegations that he was being sponsored as a political front for Governor Makinde, insisting that he would remain independent in taking decisions.
He cited his experience as Commissioner for Finance under the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, saying he had previously disagreed with his principal on certain policy decisions when necessary. He maintained that his loyalty would be to Oyo State rather than any individual.
On tourism, Adekanmbi promised a systematic development of tourist attractions across the state.
He said his administration would audit tourism sites within its first 100 days, identify their economic potential and provide necessary infrastructure, including access roads and promotional materials, before embarking on international marketing campaigns.
He also expressed optimism about the development of Ikere Gorge Dam, which is currently under federal government arrangements for concession to a private operator.
Adekanmbi said if the concession failed to produce appreciable progress, his administration would approach the Federal Government to consider transferring the project to Oyo State for development and management.
