The Loyola College Old Boys’ Association, Ibadan branch, has urged students to steer clear of drug abuse and embrace discipline, integrity and purposeful living as the school marked its 2026 Founder’s Day celebration.
Speaking at a symposium organised to commemorate the anniversary on Friday, the Chairman of the association’s Ibadan Branch, Engr. Tunde Paimo, described the theme, “Coming Out Divine: From Highs to Hopes, Breaking Free from Drugs and Finding Purpose,” as timely in addressing the challenges confronting young people.
Paimo said the symposium was organised to inspire students to make positive life choices and uphold the values of excellence, discipline, integrity and service for which Loyola College is known.
He noted that the Founder’s Day celebration was not only a time to celebrate the institution’s history but also an opportunity for alumni to renew their commitment to supporting the school’s growth and preserving its legacy.
The National President of the Loyola College Old Boys’ Association, Gbenga Biobaku, said the annual celebration honoured the vision and sacrifices of the school’s founding fathers, whose efforts had produced generations of distinguished professionals and leaders.
He urged students to uphold the values of discipline, honesty, diligence, respect and excellence, while calling on them to protect school facilities by avoiding vandalism and maintaining a clean environment.
According to him, responsible stewardship of the school’s infrastructure is a hallmark of true leadership.
Biobaku also commended the ongoing infrastructure renewal projects being executed by the old boys, saying the interventions reflected the association’s commitment to providing a conducive learning environment.
He reaffirmed LOCOBA’s commitment to supporting the college through mentorship programmes, infrastructure development, scholarships and other initiatives aimed at sustaining the institution’s academic and moral standards.
The association also appreciated the school management, teachers, alumni and other stakeholders for their continued support in preserving Loyola College’s reputation as a centre of excellence.
Items such as school uniforms and cardigans were donated to indigent students while cash gift was given to the most punctual teacher.
