The war of words between the All Progressives Congress and the Accord Party has intensified ahead of Saturday, 15th August Osun State governorship election, with both parties exchanging allegations over campaign conduct, security and governance.

An APC chieftain, Chief Ayo Afolabi, defended Senator Francis Fadahunsi over comments made during a campaign rally, insisting the senator’s remarks had been misrepresented by political opponents.

Speaking on 32FM 94.9 The Podium with Oloruntoba Yusuf, Afolabi described the controversy as an attempt to discredit the senator. He said the opposition should focus on its campaign rather than distort Fadahunsi’s comments.

Fadahunsi also denied allegations that he called on supporters to attack Accord Party members, explaining that his statement about “killing with votes” was a political expression urging supporters to overwhelmingly defeat opponents at the polls, not a call to violence.

The senator maintained that campaigns across the state had remained peaceful and accused the Accord Party of raising unnecessary controversy because it was losing support.

He also dismissed allegations linking the APC to vote-buying, insisting it was the Accord Party that was engaging in the practice.

Responding, Osun Accord Party Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, rejected the explanation, insisting that the senator’s remarks are inflammatory and should be thoroughly investigated by the police.

Akande urged security agencies to handle the matter professionally to prevent any breach of the peace.

The Accord party chief also dismissed APC’s criticism of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration, saying the government had recorded improvements in infrastructure, education and primary healthcare.

He challenged the APC to provide evidence to support its claims of poor performance.

The Accord chairman further alleged that 66 members of his party, including senior officials, had been arrested during the campaign period. He accused the APC of moving supporters across the state to create an impression of widespread popularity.

With just days to the election, both parties have continued to trade accusations while appealing to voters for support as security agencies intensify efforts to ensure a peaceful and credible poll.
